October 2012 Meeting Minutes
QBTB held the regular meeting on October 22.Mary Bradshaw Presiding
Minutes accepted and approved from September meeting
Membership: 57 people have paid memberships. After November 1st if you have not paid your dues you will not be included on the new roster. Three guests were present at the meeting. Birthdays for October were celebrated.
Program: Julie Chan Luoma spoke the group about using angle play in borders and sashings. She showed us many examples and quilts that used the angle play method. Many of the products are sold at Calico Threads and Julie teaches many different classes using this method at Calico Threads.
Treasure Report: $12, 929.31 after Fall quilt retreat was paid for.
Raffle Quilt: $2260.00 worth of tickets have been sold. If you wish to take the quilt to a guild meeting to sell tickets contact Joyce Walker.
Spring Retreat: The spring retreat is full with a waiting list. Your final payment of $150.00 is due at the November meeting.
Fall Retreat: Nancy Keay and Carolyn Rzesutek and the chairman for the fall retreat.
Old Business:
The bylaws will be reviewed in the near future.
The audit committee consisting of Marge Ritchie, Nancy Keay, and Joan Nisbet needs to set a time to meet.
Sandy Dunning and Irma Bast went to the Thrivent board meeting and got $1000.00 to spend on fabric for charity projects. A shopping committee will be meeting to purchase the fabric. Calico Threads has offered a 25% discount and Trains is having their sale November 2nd with all fabric 40% off. A motion was passed for fabric to be purchased from both stores. The paper work needs to be completed by December for reimbursement from Thrivent.
Charities: If you are in need of batting or labels for a charity quilt contact Nancy Keay. Barbara Kadden had charity quilt kits available at the meeting for members to take home to put together.
A decision needs to be made next month which charities we will be quilting for. The fabric purchased from the Thrivent grant needs to go to the Mary Bridge Family Resource Center.
Mardell is going to find out what is needed at the Mary Bridge NICU.
A suggestion was also made by Alice to make pillowcases for the Foster Kids Wishing Well organization.
New Business:
Sew Ins: A discussion was held about getting Mardell's room on a more regular basis to meet and sew.
Mary Bradshaw offered her house for the Tuesday before our meeting for people to come at sew. This would include both afternoon and evening hours. She will be e-mailing more information.
Small Groups:
General quilting groups meets 2nd Monday 10:00. Contact Joan Nisbet
Appliqué group meets on 3rd Tuesday 10:00 at Trains Quilt Shop. Contact Heather Stailey
Appliqué/Hand quilting meets 2nd Friday 10:00-12:00 at the Lakewood Library. Contact Marcia Dyer
Long-arm and domestic quilting: 3rd Tuesday. Contact Norma Jean Nyman
Future Programs:
November and December meetings are on the Third Wednesday of the month.
November: Quilt Historian Karen Alexander. She will be speaking about the history of doll and crib quilts.
December: Christmas Party. We will be showing our UFO's from our drawing.
Block Party blocks are due and we will have a drawing for the winner of the blocks.
White Elephant Gift Exchange: Bring something from your sewing room wrapped up and ready to exchange. You are not to buy anything, bring something you have sitting around in your sewing room.
