January 2012 Meeting Minutes

The QBTB January meeting was held on 1/25/12 with about 40 members and guests attending.

Our speaker, Pam Hewitt, from Quilt Barn spoke about her trips to Bali and visiting the Hoffman batik factory.  It was a very entertaining presentation that made us all want to sign up for her next tour.

Welcome to a new member Lenore Lawence who brings our paid membership up to 58.  Glad to have you with us.

Vicki Gleason announced our treasury is a bit flush at the moment due to the boutique fundraisers.  The Balance on hand is $11,127.40.  We are glad to have the money to fund our speakers.

Programs:  Susan Harmon outlined the lineup in coming months:

February will be a business meeting discussing membership and rules.
Perhaps also a sew-in or small project will be on tap.

March:  Melody Crust who will talk about borders and will possibly hold a workshop in May.

May will be Heidi Lund.

July will be Joyce Becker who specializes in landscape quilts.  She may also hold a workshop class.

Sept or Oct will likely be Maggie Ball.

Spring Retreat:   all set to go

Fall Retreat:  Sign ups began for the Oct 11-14 retreat.  The cost is
$270 with $135 being due on signing up.  Sign ups are still open.

A new challenge is offered to be due in July.  It consists of a 12 and a half inch block, unfinished, of quarter square triangles with a unifying blue floral theme.  Let's get creative here.

Show and Tell:  Mary Johnson finally did a big quilt for herself! in purple and yellow.  Also she showed a spinner twist in brights.

A guest named Amanda showed her first big quilt.  She is on her way....

Mary Bradshaw showed off her new service dog in training, Dusty, who is being trained for "Paws for Heros".
She has finished a nice Christmas quilt.

Norma Jean Nyman has a cute animal quilt done for a grandchild as well as her amazing "Celtic Jewels" -- a huge paper pieced creation.

Carole Boughton showed a nice red and white table runner.

Marcia Cramer finished a king size star quilt all done with fabric from her stash.
