QBTB met 1/27/2010 at 7pm with over 40 in attendance including 4 guests. The Gig Harbor Quilt Guild showed off their raffle quilt and sold tickets. It is a gorgeous quilt all hand appliqued and hand quilted. The Treasurer reported a balance of $8224.19. She posted a quarterly report showing an income of $9295.00 and an outgo of $4492.79. Much of the coming and going is related to the retreats. Membership reported 74 paid members. Programs: Judie Sholes said next month our speaker will be Bonnie Sables who will do a trunk show and slides about postcards. She will teach a Post Card class in the afternoon from 12:30 to 3. Sign up with Judie. Community Service: Jackie Anderson said we have turned in 26 charity quilts so far to Mary Bridge. The quilts are greatly appreciated and needed by the children going into foster care. There are quite a few walker bags out that should be turned in. Web Masters: Check the website often as updates are done frequently Carole Boughton passed around a sign up sheet asking for suggestions for classes. About 1 class per quarter will be offered. The happy treasurer thanked the group for funding a new laptop for the treasurer's use. It will be very useful when the job is passed to a new treasurer. The computer is up and running and working really well. The Spring Retreat planning is well underway with last payments collected. It was decided to add an $8 set up and down fee so we can start sewing at 10am. The Fall Retreat is a 4 day--Oct 7-10. There is one spot left. Block-of-the-Month: Susan Harmon won the Kimono blocks. A Batik Basket Weave Block is next. Next month is an "amnesty" month. Bring back any blocks from the past--sewn, partly sewn, or not sewn. Fresh start.... Birthdays: we were running behind. 9 for Nov, 4 for Dec, and 6 for January were honored. The birthday basket got a workout. Round Robin quilts were exchanged for the second borders due next March. New Business: the 2010 Raffle Quilt by Delores Slingerland was shown off with its lovely quilting with variegated thread by Rose Flannigan. The quilt is a super queen size, 96" by 100" with an Amish feel. It has a dark background and many bright solids including 56 appliqued stars. It is called "A Kaleidoscope of Color". Tickets will be distributed next meeting. Be prepared to sell some. The 2011 Raffle quilt is being planned by Andrea McColeman. She asks all the members to bring a batik fat quarter from the red-orange-yellow section of the color wheel by the April meeting. Rose Flannigan's show at Hospice House was recognized. Beautiful quilts indeed. Show and Tell: Mary Bradshaw showed 2 very different styles of quilts: a lovely contemporary with lots of embroidery and a traditional country Jo Morton design. Deborah Cade showed a beautiful Chanel style fitted jacket that she quilted, much of the project by hand. The fit was perfect. Mary Bradshaw had a delightful scrap quilt, very bright and charming. Yo Wright also does amazing things with scraps. She then topped off the meeting with her presentation about bindings. Very informative.... --Respectfully submitted, Marcia Cramer, Secretary
